Day trip to Saint Guilhem and Moureze
From Montpellier and crossing the Hérault valley and the village of Clermont l'Hérault, the minibus stops at Moureze, a charming little village of yesteryear. This hamlet of 200 inhabitants will seduce you with its narrow streets and medieval stone houses.
Take a look at the wonderful 12th century church. Do not forget to see the writings of the local poet and the driftwood works scattered everywhere.
After the ceramic workshop, walk a few meters on a small dirt road, then open your eyes.
Let yourself be charmed by the fascinating spectacle of rocks, pinnacles with strange shapes. You can walk in the middle of a natural landscape combining rocks and vegetation. It is hard to imagine the time needed for Mother Nature to develop such a show.
If you still have some strength, a gazebo has been installed above the circus, to get there, nice passages that will entertain the children and a splendid point of view that gives the opportunity to enjoy the rocks with a top view.
If you like the panorama you can go back to the summit of Mount Liausson.
The circuit will continue to the banks of the Salagou, on a peninsula that reveals sumptuous landscapes, mixing clay lands, and clear vegetation. You will be dazzled by the exceptional beauty of this Hérault valley. Created in the 60s, the lake of Salagou allows to do a lot of activity and represents an ideal excursion. He combines the deep blue of his water with the brick red of his land.
You can sit and take the time to picnic while contemplating this visual masterpiece! The moment also for the guide to explain the presence of these characteristic ruffes.
Only a few kilometers from Montpellier, the Gorges de l'Herault are a site for swimming as on the beaches of the seaside, the excesses less. If you want even more isolated places, there are also little corners of rivers wilder and well preserved.
Located between Saint Guilhem and Aniane, the Romanesque Devil’s bridge is considered one of the oldest medieval bridges in France. Classified as a World Heritage Site by l'UNESCO under the paths of Saint Jacques de Compostelle. It offers a breathtaking view of the gorges on one side and the water level on the other! Before heading to St Guilhem, have a look at the famous legend of the Devil's Bridge that earned its name.
In St Guilhem, let yourself be carried away by the picturesque alleys, watch the old doors and the strange flowers hanging on them. Go meet local artisans and let yourself be tempted by a short break on the terrace of a café in the village square! We will finally go to the Abbey of Gellone founded by William of Orange. Dating back to the year 804, this abbey is a gem of the Languedoc's Romanesque art, it was classified in 1998 as World Heritage by UNESCO under the paths of Saint Jacques de Compostelle in France.
