Excursion in Río Secreto
Take this unbelievable tour of the Riviera Maya's best kept secret. At the Río Secreto you'll swim and hike through an underground river system with thousands of stalactites and stalagmites. Go deep inside an underground cavern and experience true silence among some of the most dramatic mineral formations in the world. Swim in crystalline waters and tread where only a few intrepid travellers have stepped before.
Río Secreto, also known as Pool Tunich is a cave system, formed over millennia by a subterranean river. It is located only a few miles from Playa del Carmen and is by far the largest partially flooded cave in the Yucatan Peninsula. This incredible natural wonder was only discovered in 2007 and since then has become a protected nature reserve. A journey through Río Secreto is surreal, mystical and memorable. Whether you’re an adventurer, world traveller, or simply curious, we invite you to experience one of the most intriguing natural attractions in the Riviera Maya.
This excursion takes 3 hours and includes admission to the nature reserve in groups no larger than ten, the services of an expert bilingual guide, use of specialized equipment (wetsuit, life jacket, special footwear and hard hat with headlamp, towels, lockers and a buffet. If you choose the Plus option, you can complete your traditional Río Secreto experience with abseiling, biking as well as access to the “Ruta Seca” to witness a spectacular light and sound show in the “Salón de la Paz” (“Room of Peace”).
We suggest that you wear clothes that are comfortable for walking in the jungle; you should wear a short sleeve t-shirt with your swimming suit underneath, and bring along extra clothes to change into later. You should also bring extra cash and/or a credit card for purchasing extra food, souvenirs etc. inside the nature reserve.
